Iconic sportswear brand, Starter, has announced its new partnership with race car driver, Jeffrey Earnhardt. Earnhardt is the grandson of the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. and nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Starter will sponsor the fourth generation Earnhardt driver for his upcoming NASCAR races at Talladega Superspeedway on October 23, the Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 20 and possibly ongoing for 2017. The Starter brand will be prominently displayed on Earnhardt’s #83 Starter Toyota Camry as well as his racing suit. In addition, Earnhardt’s crew chief, Doug Richert, is the same man that led his grandfather, seven-time Sprint Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt, to his championship in 1980.

“I’m really excited to drive the No. 83 Starter Toyota Camry for the Fall race at Talladega,” said Earnhardt. “It’s my first Cup Series race at Talladega, my first race with BK Racing, the first time anyone from our family competes in a Toyota and it’s the 25th anniversary of my grandfather’s victory at Talladega. Having this opportunity with an iconic partner like Starter is an incredible honor. Doug Richert crew chiefed for my grandpa when he won his championship and now he’s with me at Talladega so this race is pretty special. I can’t remember being so pumped up for a race and sincerely appreciate our friends at Starter for their support.”

“We are excited to be working with Jeff for his upcoming NASCAR races. Jeffrey is a rising star in the racing industry and comes from a rich family history that is synonymous with the sport. Jeff has a universal appeal and authenticity that makes him the perfect partner for Starter, the original on-field brand delivering everyday performance to both athletes and fans.” said Vincent Nesi, EVP, Mens and Sports Division, Iconix Brand Group. Jeffrey Earnhardt is the grandson of seven-time Sprint Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt and nephew of this generation’s most popular driver, Dale Jr. Jeffrey began his race career piloting a silver 4-cylinder Yugo on the dirt tracks of Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. He won Rookie of the Year at the local track and knew immediately that he’d be chasing his dreams to the paved tracks of NASCAR. Jeffrey is working his way through the ranks like his grandfather did, competing in Truck, Xfinity and Specialty events including the Rolex Series and NASCAR Europe Series. He is committed to “Earning Earnhardt,” and in 2016 his journey to become a champion at the NASCAR Sprint Cup level begins.

“I’m looking forward to once again returning to the track as crew chief with an Earnhardt behind the wheel. The Earnhardt family has played such an important part in my racing career;; starting in 1978 with Dale Sr. and then winning a championship with him in 1980,” said Doug Richert. “It’s very cool to work with the fourth generation driver from the family.”

The campaign creative features Puig in a series of striking images shot overlooking the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and inside the mansion’s library. Puig appears in the campaign wearing the brands’ iconic satin jacket in both LA and Brooklyn Dodgers styles. The ads give a nod to his Cuban heritage as Puig wore fitted white linen pants and straw fedora hats with the classic jackets.

On set Puig was accompanied by his family including his mother and son where they danced to music and ate authentic Cuban cuisine. Puig’s mom even got in on the modeling by trying on his LA Dodger’s jacket and a fedora.

The multi-media marketing campaign will launch across online men’s sports and fashion outlets this month. Puig joins the ranks of baseball greats featured in iconic Starter campaigns of the 70s and 80s including Reggie Jackson, Darryl Strawberry, Cecil Fielder. “I am very honored to be in the company of so many great players who have been featured in Starter campaigns in the past,” said Puig.
